In response, Bungie announced that Gambit would now be considered “entirely optional,” removing its status as a weekly Pinnacle reward and effectively sidelining the playlist. Despite a revamp, the mode failed to engage players, leading Bungie to acknowledge the impracticality of investing more resources into it. The fate of Gambit, on the other hand, has been apparent since the launch of The Witch Queen expansion in February 2022. Bungie addressed this by explaining that their resources and development time are primarily focused on overarching updates to PvP rather than solely on maps. Player frustrations have been mounting for some time, with the community calling for new Crucible maps, which have been neglected in favor of developing player versus environment (PvE) content. Furthermore, Bungie essentially declared the PvEvP mode Gambit to be dead by labeling it as a ritual activity. In the blog post, Bungie announced some underwhelming changes for the Crucible, the game’s player versus player (PvP) mode, despite months of promises to revitalize it in the upcoming season 22. A recent “State of the Game” blog post by Bungie, the game’s developer, has only fueled the anger rather than calming it. However, this year’s outcry seems to be louder than usual. The Destiny 2 community is no stranger to expressing dissatisfaction with the state of the game.
